Kayaking around Tortuguero National Park

Tortuguero National Park is an off the beaten path destination on the Carribean Coast of Costa Rica filled with miles and miles of waterways waiting to be explored by kayak. Rios Tropicales has partnered with Mawamba Lodge to create the first paddling adventure exploring the canals and primary forests that are home to an abundance of wildlife and spectacular scenery.

Day 1: We will pick you up early in the morning at your San Jose hotel and head through Braulio Carrillo National Park towards the banana filled lowlands of the Atlantic Slope. We will have breakfast en route before arriving at our starting point on the Tortuguero River. We will begin our paddle and have lunch along the way along the river before arriving at Mawamba Lodge for our welcome cocktail and dinner reception.

Day 2: After a delicious breakfast we will travel by motor boat towards the Colorado River where we will be stepping into our kayaks for today's paddling adventure. We will be visiting the enchanting Laguna Nueve and have the chance to spend some time on the beautiful and isolated Carribean beaches of Tortuguero today.

Day 3: Today you will have many options to choose from. The idea is to give you some free time to enjoy the local activities and tours in the area, paddle to the hills and take a hike, or just hang out by the pool and relax in the hammocks at Mawamba Lodge. Lunch will be at the lodge and the afternoon could be used to visit the Biological Station or have an optional turtle night viewing tour.

Day 4: After having breakfast you will leave from Mawamba lodge by boat for your return trip to San Jose and we will be having lunch along the way.

Note: This itinerary can also be changed slightly to accommodate a two or three day tour if you like.
